The Virtual Meeting functionality, accessed through the Internet Assisted Review (IAR) module via eRA Commons, lets reviewers and scientific review officers or meeting administrators participate in an online review meeting in lieu of a face-to-face meeting at a physical location. IAR supports both physical and virtual meetings.
The Internet Assisted Review (IAR) Module is a system to support the review of grant applications and proposals. It provides a secure environment for reviewers to view applications, provide written feedback, and scores. The system provides additional features for scientific review officers or meeting administrators to upload meeting materials to assist in the review of the applications or proposals.

It creates a secure space for reviewers to provide comments in a ‘chat like’ environment. When these meetings are run as an asynchronous meeting, reviewers do not need to travel to a central location to discussion applications and can virtually respond to comments through this meeting format. The asynchronous nature of this format gives reviewers the flexibility to participate when they are available during a specified window.
