Associating Your FACTS Account With Login.gov

NOTE: FACTS State Department users are strongly encouraged to associate the eRA account they use to access FACTS with Login.gov and then use Login.gov credentials to access FACTS, instead of using their eRA account credentials (password and username).

Eventually, the use of Login.gov will be required to access FACTS. We recommend you take the time to make this change soon, well before it is required.

to do so, you must first associate your eRA account with your Login.gov account. See below for detailed instructions.

Before you begin:

  • Make sure the eRA account you use to access FACTS is active and you know your account password.

  • If your password has expired, click the Forgot Password/Unlock Account? link on the FACTS login screen to reset your password.

Then follow these steps:

  1. Click on the Login.gov option on the FACTS home screen to begin the process. Do not go straight to Login.gov to create your account or initiate the login process.

  2. You will be presented with a Confirmation Required dialog. Click Continue and you will be redirected tohttps://secure.Login.gov/.

    2. Or, if you do not have a Login.gov account, click on ‘Create an account’ and follow the prompts. (See the step-by-step instructions in How to Create an Account with LOGIN.GOV:

      The login.gov sign-in screen

  4. You will be redirected back to FACTS and presented with the Associate Your eRA Account screen. Here you will associate your Login.gov account with the eRA account you use to access FACTS (a one-time process):

  • Enter your eRA account username and password

    Associate Your eRA Account screen

Once your eRA credentials are accepted, your Login.gov account has been successfully associated with the eRA account you use to access FACTS. You will then directly access FACTS.

  1. Going forward, click on the LOGIN.GOV in the login section of the FACTS home screen. Sign in with your Login.gov account and complete the two-factor authentication method you have set up for your Login.gov account. You will automatically be logged into FACTS and taken to the SDC Search and Hitlist landing screen.

  1. Choose an authentication method from the multiple authentication methods available to you (a security code to a phone, a list of codes, an authentication application, a security key, or a government employee ID). A second authentication method is required for system security. A security code sent to your phone by text is one of the easier methods.

Note: Since Login.gov does not have the ability to call or text all international numbers, FACTS users should check this Login.gov list of International Phone Number Support to verify if their phone number is supported for voice calls or text messaging before setting up any phone-related authentication method with Login.gov. Alternatively, they can set up a security key, PIV/CAC card or back-up code as their authentication method(s).
